Poor Cecco

Poor Cecco is written by Margery William Bianco, the author of the Velveteen Rabbit. Poor Cecco was her second book, written in 1925.

Its full title is Poor Cecco: The Wonderful Story of a Wonderful Wooden Dog Who was the Holliest Toy in the House Until He Went Out of Explore the World (quite a mouthful). Like her other stories, it is a little dark in places as Cecco learns about the world beyond the toy cupboard, and has interactions with humans, the beautiful black cat Murrum and other animals, as well as other toys.

Arthur Rackham did seven illustrations for Poor Cecco, presented here.
